Lighting Science, the LED lighting technology company focused on health, wellness and horticulture solutions, announced today the appointment of Khim Lee as President. With more than 15 years’ experience in LED lighting, management consulting, and private equity operations, Khim is ideally equipped to drive the next phase of growth at Lighting Science.
Since separating its private-label business and forming Global Value Lighting (GVL) earlier this year, Lighting Science is focused on its core mission of developing state-of-the-art products. Khim will oversee all strategic and business aspects of the company, managing the creation of innovative biological, horticultural and urban lighting solutions for commercial and consumer markets.
“I am very excited to bring my experience to Lighting Science and the fast-growing sectors we are targeting,” said Khim. “We are looking forward to bringing the benefits of lighting technology to our customers. Whether in living spaces such as offices and bedrooms, classrooms, or plant growth facilities, our products are improving the quality of lives and enhancing crop yields.”
“Lighting Science continues to disrupt the lighting industry with never-before-seen innovations in LED lighting,” said Joel Haney, Principal at Pegasus, Lighting Sciences’ largest shareholder. “We are committed to Lighting Science’s vision of bringing light to life, and Khim’s passion for sustainability, combined with his background in LED lighting, made him the perfect fit to lead the company and oversee its growth.”
Khim will work alongside Abraham Morris, Executive Chairman of Lighting Science, Ed Bednarcik, CEO of GVL, David Friedman, the recently appointed President of VividGro, the horticultural arm of Lighting Science, and Fred Maxik, founder and Chief Technology Officer of Lighting Science.
“We are very pleased to welcome Khim into the Lighting Science family,” said Fred Maxik, founder and CTO of Lighting Science. “We are confident that under his leadership Lighting Science will continue to break new ground and open up new avenues of innovation in LED lighting and lighting solutions. In conjunction with our work with Harvard and NASA, Lighting Science has proven that light can have positive impacts on human health and biology, and we are committed to developing these technologies to enable a healthier future.”
Khim received his Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering and Economics from the University of California Berkeley and received his Masters in Mechanical Engineering from California Institute of Technology. He started his career at McKinsey & Co. in San Francisco, CA. Khim then served as Product Line Director at Philips Lumileds, a business group at Philips Lighting, where he launched and built its Mid-Power lighting LED product line. Most recently, Khim was at Vector Capital, a technology-focused private equity fund, where he led strategic and cross-portfolio initiatives across a portfolio of technology companies.Tagged with Kim Lee, lighting science
