LEDVANCE Awarded With Ecovadis Silver Medal For Sustainability Efforts

Garching-based lighting expert LEDVANCE has been awarded a silver medal from EcoVadis for its sustainability performance in 2023. To evaluate its sustainability efforts and achievements and make them visible to all stakeholders, LEDVANCE has been using EcoVadis sustainability ratings since 2018, which assess performances in the areas of “Environment”, “Labor & Human Rights”, “Ethics” and “Sustainable Procurement”. Due to the company’s increased efforts to implement a global and holistic approach to sustainability through additional measures (e. g. by joining and committing to additional sustainability initiatives like SBTi, implementing a global sustainability strategy and new policies in several areas of the company, as well as publishing its first global Sustainability report), LEDVANCE improved its score in total and in all four subcategories compared to the previous year. Overall, LEDVANCE achieved a score of 65 (PY 62) out of 100 in the final report for this year. As with last year, this corresponds to an EcoVadis silver medal.

Over the last months, LEDVANCE has taken important steps to further professionalize its sustainability efforts. With “LEDVANCE LOOP”, the company has not only developed an umbrella brand for all sustainability topics, but also a sustainability strategy on how to achieve the goals. In this context, the company has also recently announced its new series of luminaires with interchangeable light sources and drivers, EVERLOOP.

Building on their increased efforts, LEDVANCE was following the goal of a gold rating for 2024, which now needs to be reevaluated due to impeding changes in EcoVadis’ ratings.

Changes in EcoVadis rating from 2024                                                                                             As of January 1, 2024, EcoVadis will decrease the number of awarded companies from 50 percent to 35 percent. Also, the minimum score for certain categories will be raised, which may lead to decreased ratings despite improved performance. Medals will be awarded solely on the basis of percentile thresholds, i.e. there will no longer be static score thresholds associated with each medal level.

“Nevertheless, we at LEDVANCE support EcoVadis’ decision as it means even stricter global regulation of companies and a higher standard for the medal program”, says Stefan Geißdörfer, Global Head of Compliance and Sustainability at LEDVANCE. “By being reassessed every year, identifying strengths and weaknesses, and implementing corrective actions, we can continue to improve our performance and increase our contribution to a greener planet.”
