IES & NALMCO Announce Joint Memorandum of Understanding

NEW YORK — The Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) and the International Association of Lighting Management Companies (NALMCO) are pleased to announce a memorandum of understanding (MOU) enabling future collaboration on consensus-based guidelines and publications. IES and the NALMCO are partners and joint developers of the American National Standard titled ANSI/IES/NALMCO RP-36, Recommended Practice: Lighting Maintenance. Both parties seek to advance lighting knowledge and further improve the quality of lighting through this MOU.

The IES and NALMCO have agreed to establish a mutually beneficial relationship between the parties; encourage coordination among each organization’s documents, where appropriate; and, when mutually beneficial, create joint documents, share in educational opportunities, designate committee representatives, and advocate for each other’s organization. Potential research projects and increased participation in committee activities are anticipated.

“The IES has a long-established partnership with NALMCO, and our recent MOU provides a foundation for future collaborations that aim to continue to promote the importance of electricians and lighting installers, and their skillsets,” stated IES CEO and Executive Director, Colleen Harper.

In 1906 the IES was founded with the purpose of bringing together those with lighting knowledge to develop standards, promote research, and develop educational materials to advance the art, science, and practice of lighting design and engineering. The strength of the IES is its diversified membership including engineers, architects, designers, educators, students, contractors, distributors, utility personnel, manufacturers and scientists in 64 countries. The IES is a 501(c)3 non-profit professional society writing the American National Standards (ANSI) for lighting.

NALMCO is a 501(c)6 not-for-profit organization founded in 1953. NALMCO is committed to raising the professional level of its members and the performance of lighting systems by providing education, certification, and networking opportunities for the lighting industry. The speed of technological development in the lighting industry necessitates our organization to provide our members with the means to obtain this knowledge. They seek to provide information and training to our industry practitioners expeditiously and in a concise, unbiased manner.
