IES Cancels In-Person Street and Area Lighting Conference, Goes Virtual

The Illuminating Engineering Society released this statement on Thursday regarding their Street and Area Lighting Conference, scheduled to take place October 11-13, 2021:

Dear IES Community Members,

Amid the escalating COVID-19 positivity rate and increased travel restrictions, the Illuminating Engineering Society’s Street and Area Lighting Conference Committee announces that the 2021 Street and Area Lighting Conference (SALC) will not take place in person, and instead will be hosted in a completely virtual format.

Important Information:

  • The dates for SALC have not changed. The Conference will be October 11-13, 2021.
  • All conference components – general sessions, exhibition, and breakouts – will be virtual.
  • The Sunday, October 10th pre-conference classes are canceled.
  • Registration rates are $450 for IES members and $600 for nonmembers. Online registration will remain open until the start of the Conference. (Previous registrants can expect to be contacted within the next seven days with information and instructions on how this transition impacts them and their options for refunds.)

As always, the health and safety of the lighting community, including our members, staff, supporters, vendors and volunteers, is our top priority. While this was a very difficult decision to make, it provides us with the opportunity to host a more inclusive event – enabling attendance by governmental or municipality employees and any others who are under travel restrictions, increasing our virtual exhibit hall space to allow greater participation, and providing unlimited access to interact with exhibitors throughout the duration of the event.

We’re looking forward to hosting attendees and exhibitors alike from the safety and comfort of your personal workspaces. We hope you find this year’s Street and Area Lighting Conference an insightful and valuable experience.

Please don’t hesitate to contact salc@ies.org with any questions you may have.

Kindest regards,

RJ Darling
SALC Committee Chair

Rebecca Rainer
SALC Committee Vice-Chair
