Acuity Brands Awarded Patent

Acuity BrandsATLANTA — Acuity Brands, Inc. announced its Hyperbolic Ceiling-Reflector for directional light sources has been awarded a U.S. patent. The reflector’s innovative hyperbolic shape minimizes glare and aperture brightness generated by an LED light source, while still delivering one of the industry’s leading efficacies.

“The curvature design of the Hyperbolic Ceiling-Reflector cuts off the LED light before it reaches the bottom of the reflector, making the fixture appear essentially dark from any distance and thus less visible in the ceiling,” said Dan Fernandez, Director-Product Marketing, Architectural Downlighting and Track. “This goes to the core of what downlighting is meant to do: unobtrusively deliver the right amount of light to the space.”

“We refer to this hidden effect as a ‘silent ceiling’, as the fixture does not draw unnecessary attention or create any ‘hot spots’ to distract from architectural focal points throughout the space. And, yet, the reflector is one of the most efficient on the market today. This patent acknowledges the work we’ve been doing for several years now focusing on our innovative optical approach to downlighting,” said Fernandez.
