LEDVANCE Receives US EPA 2019 SmartWay Excellence Award

WILMINGTON, Mass. – LEDVANCE LLC was honored with a SmartWay® Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as an industry leader in freight supply chain environmental performance and energy efficiency.

LEDVANCE was awarded this honor for several initiatives designed to improve supply chain efficiency including:

  • 98 percent of ton-miles being shipped using SmartWay carriers who are actively reducing their transportation-related emissions
  • efficient freight strategies such as optimized routing, improved loading and packing, and increased use of intermodal transport (combined usage of rail, truck and/or boat)
  • increased efficiency and reduced noise at our facilities with after-hour deliveries, enforcement of a No-idling policy, and “Drop and hook” operations whereby carriers drop their delivery trailer and immediately collect a new one, eliminating wait times and idling.

“We are honored to receive this distinguished recognition for the third year in a row from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.  Using tools provided by SmartWay has helped us to create a more focused supply chain strategy and achieve a lower carbon footprint,” said Lawrence Lin, global CEO and Managing Director of the U.S. and Canada region, LEDVANCE. “LEDVANCE’s sustainability commitment extends beyond on its own environmental footprint and also focuses on providing energy-efficient, long-lasting SYLVANIA LED lighting products.”

LEDVANCE was one of 17 shipper and logistics companies to receive this distinction, representing the best environmental performers of SmartWay’s 3700 Partners.  The Excellence Awardees were honored at the recent 2019 American Trucking Association’s Management Conference and Exhibition in San Diego, California.

“This year, the U.S. EPA’s SmartWay Transport Partnership is recognizing 13 shippers and four third-party logistics providers as recipients of the 2019 SmartWay Excellence Award,” said EPA’s Director of the Office of Transportation and Air Quality, Sarah Dunham.  “These awardees are the top two percent of environmental performers among all of our SmartWay Partners. They are redefining best practices for freight transport by reducing fuel costs and improving the public health of the communities they serve.”
