SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.V. — Cary S. Mendelsohn, CLMC, has been elected chair of the National Lighting Bureau (NLB), the independent, not-for-profit, lighting-education foundation sponsored by professional societies, trade associations, manufacturers, utilities, and agencies of the U.S. government. Mendelsohn, the CEO and owner of Imperial Lighting Maintenance Company (Chicago, IL), represents the interNational Association of Lighting Management Companies (NALMCO) on the NLB board of directors.
Howard P. Lewis, who was elected NLB vice chair, represents the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) and is associated with Spectro Lume, LLC. Raymond E. “Ray” Kasmark, Jr., the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers’ (IBEW’s) director of business development, was elected secretary/treasurer.
Mendelsohn and his father started Imperial Lighting Maintenance Company in 1973. He serves as CEO of the company and, along with his three children, runs the daily operations of the business, which services more than 2,000 customers with a staff of 50-plus employees. “We are a family-owned-and-operated business and we are planning to stay that way,” Mr. Mendelsohn said.
Despite the press of business, Mendelsohn has been extremely active in the lighting industry for more than four decades, having served on the NALMCO board of directors for eight years, including two years as the organization’s president. He earned his Certified Lighting Management Consultant (CLMC) designation through NALMCO and is also a recipient of NALMCO’s Distinguished Service Award. Mendelsohn has also served on the IES Maintenance Committee since 1988 and has been an active member of the National Lighting Bureau for more than 20 years.
