BURGAW, N.C. (AP) — Philips Electronics says it will close its plant in Burgaw in Pender County by late next summer, putting at least 50 people out of work.
Local media outlets report that the company has filed a notice to comply with a federal law requiring public notice of layoffs that involve 50 or more workers.
The plant makes emergency lighting products. The company says the jobs will be moved to another plant but did not indicate where.
The notice says that layoffs will begin next April 1, and the plant will close by Sept. 1.
