Exponation, the owner of LightShow West and the LED Specifier Summit, along with a variety of other trade shows, abruptly filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
The future of those events, and others previously owned by Exponation, are now in doubt. The LightShow West website currently has one message at the top: “LightShow West is cancelled”. The LightShow twitter page does contain a statement from Exponation which reads, “As a result of the impact of COVID-19, Exponation LLC (producer of Digital Signage Expo, LED Specifier Summit, LightShow West, DigitalSignageConnection.com, and West Coast Lighting Insider) has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, which is a liquidation of all assets and a permanent closure of the company. If you are a creditor of Exponation LLC, you will be notified court via U.S. Mail shortly, with instructions about filing a claim against Exponation’s limited remaining assets.”
The LightShow West website only contains the statement that the event has been cancelled.
LightShow West held its in-person event in 2019 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, where its promotion stated it, “offers two days of lighting education and solutions geared toward buyers and specifiers of commercial, architectural and high-end decorative lighting products, controls and technologies. Launched in 2005, LightShow West has grown to become the West Coast’s foremost destination for architects, designers and other lighting professionals to keep current on the latest lighting trends through educational seminars and face-to-face interaction with 275+ leading international lighting manufacturers.” The event did have plans for a 2021 event, although nothing had been finalized.

The LED Specifier Summit website has the same message as LightShow West, simply stating, “LED Specifier Summit Shows are cancelled”. LED Specifier Summits were scheduled in a number of cities across the country, including Denver, Chicago, and Seattle. The LED Specifier Summit twitter page has the same bankruptcy announcement from Exponation, but as recently as July 2 had announced plans for a summit in Denver next April.
