LEDVANCE LLC announced the closure of its production facility in St. Marys, Pennsylvania, and as a result, the cessation of SSLE production in Juarez, Mexico, which supports the St. Marys plant. Approximately 175 employees will be impacted by this decision at St. Marys, and approximately 125 employees will be impacted in Juarez.
For several years, the market for traditional light bulbs produced by the St. Marys plant has declined as consumers shift to long-lasting, energy-efficient LED light bulbs. Market prices for LED light bulbs have also decreased while their expected life has increased, resulting in the need to buy fewer replacement bulbs. Therefore, the company has reached a point where it is no longer economically viable to continue operations of the St. Marys facility. Production at the St. Marys plant will be completely phased out by the end of October 2019. Decommissioning of the facility is slated for completion by summer 2020.
The Company is extremely proud of the contributions the St. Marys plant and its employees have made to the lighting industry and our customers over many years. LEDVANCE will begin working immediately with all impacted employees to support them through this transition.
