Osram Opens Application Center in Shanghai

In addition to the Osram application center for aftermarket products in Herbrechtingen, there is now a second one in Asia, which was officially opened in Shanghai on November 9, 2015. This brings Osram closer to business customers in the Asian region. On the one hand, it helps to deal with requests from customers in Asia more quickly, and on the other, technical queries and issues can be resolved together with the customer.

Up to now, existing and potential Osram customers could witness specialty lighting products in action mainly in Herbrechtingen (Germany) or at trade fairs, something that will change with the opening of the second location. An area of almost 500 square meters makes the light and airy building slightly larger than its German counterpart. Apart from a showroom for automotive products, it also houses a second showroom for stage and event lighting. Both rooms can also be used as training rooms for customers or for events. An electrical lab, and facilities for the development of prototypes as well as for comprehensive application and processing tests are also located there. In a workshop at the back of the building a showcar is used to demonstrate the latest trends and developments in automotive lighting.

“Our two application centers close the gap between the customer and the product. Our business partners can experience the products live and can see for themselves what their benefits are”, says Hans-Joachim Schwabe, CEO Specialty Lighting at Osram. “As only European countries could take advantage of this so far, given the location of Herbrechtingen, the new application center in Shanghai is particularly important for the ever growing sales market in Asia.”

In Shanghai, technical experts provide solutions and answers to complex queries on site. Serving as a distribution channel for potential customers from the automotive industry and tuning sector, Osram wants to expand local product relevance and devote more attention to the local market.
